All through our lives we're told
Don't ever settle.
Never settle for less than you deserve.
"Some people are settling down, some people are settling, and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies."
-Carrie Bradshaw
In my life I've always been scared of "settling." I've never wanted to be ordinary. I want poetry in my life, beauty, and amazing moments every day!
And though I will never stop demanding more out of life, I'm finally seeing the beauty in settling.... settling my heart. For so many years I've searched for something else. Something exciting, something extreme, something to make me feel alive. I've spent my days dreaming of the next big adventure, the next party, my next obsession... I've found myself so many times repeating the same words: "I'm just so bored."
So I spent my days waiting... waiting for something.
And all the while, as I was searching for all of the extraordinary things in life... I failed to see just how beautiful the ordinary can be.
Now finally, I see it. Now finally, I've decided to stop waiting, and to start living.
Because the truth is, you don't have to settle for less, to settle... to be content.
A summer's day, a night at home watching movies, a day spent shopping with my mom, a late night talk with my husband, a beautiful song on the radio, a cup of coffee with a friend.....
Ordinary? Maybe. Boring? Never.
It's a beautiful thing to finally be content.
"I have in the past, seen settling down as a deterrent to growth. It doesn't have to be though. It can be the launching of new growth."
-Jan Denise
I'll never stop looking for my next big adventure... for those things that make me feel alive.... but from now on I'll open my eyes to what's already in front of me....and I'll settle my heart.
"If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."
-Dorthy, The Wizard of Oz
I am so working on settling my own heart right now... And any time you quote Carrie Bradshaw, you are pretty much awesome in my book!

ReplyDeleteSettling comes with maturity in my opinion... I am not exactly "mature" enough to settle, I'm not ready for it, but I DO* want to, one day.
